<div><br name="BB10" caretmarkerset="INVALID" class="markedForCaretMarkerRemoval"></div><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 10px 0px; border: 0px; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 17px; vertical-align: baseline; color: rgb(51, 51, 51);">Awka- THREE persons were feared dead and about twenty others wounded on Sunday when members of a new pro- Biafra group, the Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) and security operatives engaged in a shootout in Onitsha.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 10px 0px; border: 0px; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 17px; vertical-align: baseline; color: rgb(51, 51, 51);">It was not clear what caused the trouble, but one of the injured persons, Mr. Chinwendu Ikechukwu said the group was carrying out an evangelism programme on the need for people to embrace Biafra Republic in parts of Nkpor , Idemili North local government area after their routine meeting, adding that it was while they were on the street that security operatives opened fire on them.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 10px 0px; border: 0px; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 17px; vertical-align: baseline; color: rgb(51, 51, 51);">He said: "On reaching Okpoko junction, we were accosted by a detachment of policemen who fired tear gas on our members numbering about 5000, but they later allowed us to go since we were non violent.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 10px 0px; border: 0px; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 17px; vertical-align: baseline; color: rgb(51, 51, 51);">"However, on reaching Uga junction close to the Niger Bridge Head, the Naval men on duty there opened fire on us. In our defenseless state, three of our members were shot dead, while about twenty others sustained injuries. Even the police who initially allowed us to go later joined in shooting our members."</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 10px 0px; border: 0px; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 17px; vertical-align: baseline; color: rgb(51, 51, 51);">According to him, the injured persons were initially rushed to the nearby Paragon Hospital, Fegge before they were distributed to other hospitals.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 10px 0px; border: 0px; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 17px; vertical-align: baseline; color: rgb(51, 51, 51);">The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Okechukwu Ali however denied the involvement of police in the shooting, adding that the police were in a 'Show of Force' operation in Onitsha as at the time of the incident.</p><p style="margin: 0px; padding: 10px 0px; border: 0px; font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 17px; vertical-align: baseline; color: rgb(51, 51, 51);">"We never shot at the group, even though the law of the land has outlawed all pro -Biafran groups," he said.</p><div><span style="color: rgb(51, 51, 51); font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 17px;">Also, a naval officer who refused to give his name said the group was lying, insisting that nobody died. "He is<br>running now on the pitch but he shall not be fit<br>enough. [He will come back] after the<br>international break, I hope, because it's also a<br>process. I am saying too much now."<br>United are yet to sign a centre-back this summer<br>but Van Gaal, who had a bid for Real Madrid's<br>Sergio Ramos rejected, is adamant he has a<br>balanced squad with two players in every<br>position.<br>When fit, Jones will be an alternative to Chris<br>Smalling while Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind are<br>two left-footers who can play in the centre of<br>defence.<br>"You can see my selection and you can see that<br>for every position a double, so we don't have to<br>change but when we can improve we shall do<br>that, but our way," he added.<br>United have only conceded one goal in their first<br>three games of the season and Van Gaal believes<br>they have proved their critics wrong.<br>"You are writing: 'You have no defence, you are<br>not good enough,'" he said.<br>Van Gaal has been particularly happy with<br>Smalling, explaining: "He makes steps, I have to<br>admit. I can see it and you can see it. That's<br>fantastic."<br>But he believes the England international can<br>improve when bringing the ball out of defence,<br>saying: "He could do better. For a manager you<br>always want more, but he makes steps in that,<br>particularly in that aspect of football because in<br>defending, he was always the best."

Ado Isa, Media Coordinator of JTF, in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State. He said the raids were conducted within 10 days.<br /><br><br /><br>Isa said that troops deployed to <br /><br>Oka pipeline in Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area of Edo impounded an illegal oil bunkering truck with registration number EDO BEN 117 ZN.<br /><br><br /><br>He said that the truck loaded with 16 plastic tanks of 1500 litres capacity was siphoning illegally refined Automotive Gas Oil (AGO) at the time of arrest.<br /><br><br /><br>The JTF spokesman said the products estimated to be about 24,000 litres were suspected to have been illegally siphoned from the NNPC pipeline.<br /><br><br /><br>He added that some of the vandals fled prior to the arrival of the troops while the truck was in the custody of the JTF for further investigation.<br /><br><br /><br>He said some of the arrested were made at Ughelli-Warri and Orerokpe Community in Okpe and Ughelli North Local Government Areas of Delta.
