Cops appended to the Ilado Police post, close to the Ajakoyi Beach, have paraded four fake maritime officers and a fighter for charged coercion of occupants.

Vanguard reports that the suspects who were wearing military uniform were secured in Lagos state at the weekend by adolescents at Ilado range of the state while they were escaping in a kayak subsequent to getting away from police detainment.


Reports say the suspects were later given over to agents of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, (SARS) Lagos state charge in Ikeja.


An inhabitant of the region, who gave his name as Wasiu Omojola, told Vanguard that: “We are overwhelmingly anglers however a few of us do oil business. The military staff used to come to coerce cash from us day by day.


“We didn’t even realize that they were fake officers. They would come in military uniform. Their pioneer whom we later acknowledged is an Army Sergeant would dress as an Army Lieutenant Commander. “He let us know that his gathering was on Joint Military operation. He then educated us to contribute N2 million for his manager. We could raise N500, 000. “I don’t know how one of us reported the improvement to Army powers who said that they didn’t send any group for joint military watch to our range. When we got the data, we now assembled against the self-acclaimed joint military watch.


“When they arrived the next day to continue their blackmail, we captured them. They didn’t trust it when we took them to the Police. We were later educated by the same Police that the suspects got away from their cell, so we assembled again and gave them a hot pursue. We later captured them and conveyed them to SARS.”


It was accumulated from a source inside of the police that the Nigerian Army affirmed that the suspect who paraded himself as a lieutenant was really a sergeant.


“The Army has taken him for court-military yet we have kept in touch with the Army that after the court – military, the man ought to be taken back to the Police for appropriate indictment,” the source said.


Addressing newsmen, one of the suspects who gave his name as Oche said: “Well, there is no occupation in the nation. My companion who is an Army Sergeant conveyed the thought of going to gather cash from those doing illicit oil organizations. The sergeant gave me the uniform that I am putting on now. I don’t think about others. Sergeant is the one sharing our plunder. I got N50, 000 three times however I couldn’t trust it when we were captured. It is genuine, we got away from Police cell. Responding to the capture, the state’s chief of police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni, said the speedy landing of his officers spared the suspects from being lynched by angry crowd.


“They were denying individuals of their assets. The general population were endeavoring to lynch them when the Police raged the spot and saved them. The entirety of N380, 000 was recuperated from the suspect,” Owoseni said.
