I believe that<br> for a country to be great, both the leaders and the led<br> must be prepared to make sacrifices. This is why,<br> everywhere I go, I always advise that the new<br> generation of African leaders must think differently.<br> "We can no longer afford to wilfully sacrifice the blood<br> of our citizens on the altar of dangerous partisan<br> politics. It is not worth it. This reminds me of one of<br> my campaign statements to the effect that my<br> ambition was not worth the shedding of the blood of<br> any Nigerian. Some people took it then as mere<br> political slogan but I knew that I meant it when I said<br> it.</p> <p dir="ltr">"We must all fight for the enthronement of political<br> stability in Africa, for in it lies the panacea for<br> sustainable growth and development. For Africa to<br> record the kind of advancement that will be competitive and beneficial to our citizens, we must have stable<br> states supported by strong institutions. That appears<br> to be the irreducible minimum that is common to all<br> developed societies. Africa's political odyssey can<br> distinctly be categorised into three eras, and probably<br> another that would later signpost its classification as a<br> developed continent."</p> <p dir="ltr">On the difficulties ahead<br> "Some may doubt this, but it is no fluke that Africa is<br> growing and rising. However, I will admit before you<br> here that we still have challenges. That is why people like us did all we could to ensure that Nigeria, the<br> biggest black nation on earth, would not drift into<br> anarchy because such a situation would have spelt<br> doom for the rest of the continent. It would have<br> affected not just Nigeria alone, but the GDP and<br> economy of the entire West Africa. And, if the economy<br> of West Africa crashes, it would definitely affect the<br> performance of the economy of the whole of Africa.<br> "As you know, the GDP of Africa is less than three<br> trillion dollars, with only six African countries able to<br> boast of nominal GDP above $100 billion. Even for<br> those in this 'elite' category, you can't really say that<br> they are rich countries. Apart from maybe South Africa<br> that has an industrially competitive economy, the rest<br> are still mainly commodity exporting countries. Even<br> the case of that of South Africa is not very<br> encouraging, because we have a situation which we<br> could refer to as a first world economic performance,<br> yet the ordinary people live the life of the people in the<br> so called third world.<br> "In the case of Nigeria which is even the biggest<br> economy on the continent, the reality is that we have<br> an unenviable per capita GDP of $3,203, which is the<br> World Bank average for a period covering 2011-2015."</p> <p dir="ltr">On Africa's potential<br> "Even then, I still believe that Africa has a bright<br> future; a promising prognosis that is supported by the<br> fact that the continent remains a very fertile and<br> attractive territory that yields irresistible returns on<br> investments. I believe that in the next few years many<br> more big investors will be jostling to come to Africa, if<br> only we will do the right thing.<br> "The process of getting it right has already started<br> with a democratic and increasingly democratising<br> Africa. But we have to deepen and strengthen our<br> democratic credentials through regular, free and fair<br> elections. This will in turn bring about the stability<br> necessary to improve the infrastructure that promotes<br> rapid economic growth. These are the guarantees that<br> would lead us into the next period which I would like to<br> call the era of a developed Africa. I have no doubt in<br> my mind that we will get there some day."</p> <p dir="ltr">About future plans<br> "First, is to work for good governance by promoting<br> credible and transparent elections. This will bring<br> about the strengthening of our institutions and the<br> enthronement of stability.<br> "I also believe that there is the urgent need to create<br> jobs for our teeming young population. This is another<br> area that will be receiving my attention.<br> "I believe more programmes like that (Youth Enterprises with Innovation (YouWin) and the Nagropreneur programme) should be established to<br> promote youth entrepreneurship. That way, we reduce their reliance on paid employment. <br> We will not only teach them to become entrepreneurs, they will also acquire the capacity to employ other people. We will be paying special attention to this segment of our society, especially young people and women.<br> "As we speak, Our Nagropreneur programme, to<br> promote youth involvement in agriculture value chain,<br> is being scaled up by the African Development Bank<br> presently. It is already being replicated in 19 African<br> countries because of the success of the programme in<br> Nigeria.<br> "I am very optimistic that if we encourage young men<br> and women in this continent to develop businesses of<br> their own, the story of Africa will change within 10<br> years."</p> <p dir="ltr">Details on Vanguard .<br> </p>

I work in this office and my Boss and his wife<br /><br>have been married for about 11 years without a<br /><br>child and the wife filed for a divorce not too long<br /><br>ago. We started a relationship when he came<br /><br>down about a year ago and wished I could get<br /><br>pregnant for him.<br /><br><br /><br>We use to have unprotected s*x a lot but I didn't<br /><br>see any sign of pregnancy so I concluded he<br /><br>may be the one with a problem, hence his wife's<br /><br>decision to leave him. We decided not to have<br /><br>s*x again on the 1st of January as we both feel<br /><br>guilty after the act.<br /><br>Now there is a problem...<br /><br><br /><br>I tested positive when I checked with a test<br /><br>strip, so I'm pregnant. He's very happy but I'm<br /><br>not. He told me he wants to go and see my<br /><br>family and have the necessary rites performed in<br /><br>March.<br /><br><br /><br>My worry is he might not do so (as promised)<br /><br>and the pregnancy will start showing. I had the<br /><br>same problem with my first son's dad who<br /><br>always postponed the date for him to come and<br /><br>do the traditional rites till my tummy grew and<br /><br>everyone noticed I was pregnant yet he didn't<br /><br>marry me .<br /><br><br /><br>I suggested an abortion but he refused saying<br /><br>I'm depriving him of becoming a father besides<br /><br>he's getting to 40. If he end up not marrying me<br /><br>like my ex, my family will be very disappointed in<br /><br>me for allowing such happen to me again as I<br /><br>can't call this one a mistake.

- Guus Hiddink says the loan signing of<br>Alexandre Pato is not a gamble but admits it is up<br>to the Brazilian to prove he can succeed at<br>Chelsea.<p>Pato arrived in London on Wednesday to finalise<br>the details of a six-month move to Stamford<br>Bridge as the Premier League champions move to<br>provide further cover for first-choice striker Diego<br>Costa, who limped out of Sunday's 1-0 win over<p>Arsenal at Emirates Stadium with a minor knee<br>problem.<br>Questions have been raised about Pato's<br>imminent return to European football after a<br>previous five-year spell at AC Milan was brought to<br>an end by declining form, a succession of injuries<br>and accusations of a lack of focus.<p>However, Hiddink said signing the forward on loan<br>means Chelsea have little to lose, even if he<br>concedes that there are no guarantees the 26-<br>year-old will be able to adapt to the rigours of<p>Premier League football.<br>"It's not a gamble because it's a loan," Hiddink<br>said at a news conference ahead Chelsea's FA Cup<br>fourth-round clash with MK Dons.<br>"If you buy players who must make a next step<br>it's more of a risk. A loan is good for everyone -- to<br>see whether he is happy at this club and whether<br>the club is happy with him after his few months<br>in the upcoming time.<p>"He is in London. He was well spotted. Nowadays<br>there are no secrets. We don't want to hide. He is<br>now in the bureaucratic paperwork so we don't<br>rush it<p>. We'll see how soon it can be solved and<br>he can go on the pitch. We are waiting.<br>"It's good to have him on loan so we can see what<br>he can bring. When he comes in we have to allow<br>him time to settle down, to get used to a very<br>demanding league. Then it's up to him to make<br>this gap smaller and smaller.<p>"Now he has another chance to make a step in<br>Europe. It's a brave step and it's up to him. We'll<br>help him to get fit and see what he can bring to<br>this club."<p>Pato had been expected to complete the loan on<br>Thursday but the deal was delayed, with sources<br>telling ESPN Brasil that parent club Corinthians<br>are demanding a clause that would prevent the<br>forward from moving to any other English team<br>until the end of 2017 if Chelsea do not make the<br>move permanent this summer.<br>Corinthians requested that Pato, whose contract<br>with the Brazilian side is due to expire at the end<br>of 2016, be liable to pay €8-10 million if he were<br>to breach the agreement.<p>ESPN Brasil has been told that Pato's advisors<br>want him to accept the deal as the clause may<br>not stand in court and the amount demanded is<br>insignificant, but the player is currently unwilling<br>to do so.<p>Diego Costa has shaken off the injury he<br>sustained against Arsenal and is in line to start<br>against MK Dons as he bids to continue the<br>remarkable revival that has seen him score six<br>goals in his last six matches in all competitions<br>after netting just four times in 21 appearances<br>prior to Jose Mourinho's departure last month.<p>"I don't know what he did in the previous<br>games," Hiddink added. Raymond as well as a Second Lieutenant, S.O. Olowa- have been decided.</p><p style="margin-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 0px;">Since inception, journalists have been barred from covering the trial, which usually held under tight security.</p><p style="margin-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 0px;">Confirming the development, Col. Kingsley Samuel said: "The court martial resumed sitting on Monday, January 25, to continue hearing cases of seven officers and a soldier.</p><p style="margin-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 0px;">"This is against erroneous news reports that 19 officers of the Nigerian Army are facing trial at the court martial.</p></div><div><span style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family: 'Open Sans', sans-serif; font-size: 14px; line-height: 22px;">"The case was part-heard and now the court martial board has continued to hear the case. He turned his<br>head, alarmed. "What happened?" he<br>said. "Her ears!" I said. "They're<br>huge!" ."Oh." He relaxed. Nothing was<br>really outstanding.<p>"But there was something outstanding:<br>her ears. From behind they loomed large,<br>like protruding handles. I'd never seen her<br>from this angle. Normally I was over her,<p>breastfeeding her, changing her, or<br>putting her to sleep. When I took her out<br>for summer walks, her dainty features and<br>luminous eyes always got so many<br>comments. "She's beautiful!" people<br>would say.<p>But lately I'd been noticing a new type of<br>comment: "She looks really smart!" Was<br>that the equivalent of saying an<br>unattractive woman had a "great<br>personality"?<p>Don't get me wrong: after four years of<br>infertility I was so grateful for my<br>daughter, who really is adorable. Trying to<br>get pregnant for so long meant I also<br>swore that I wouldn't be one of those<br>helicopter over-achieving parents, hoping<br>to get my kid on a path into Yale by age<br>two.<p> My husband and I were pretty laid<br>back, jeans and t-shirt type of people,<br>even though we'd both had cosmetic<br>surgery (him, a nose job; me, a stem cell<br>face lift.) But this wasn't just about looks<br>— it could affect how other kids would<br>treat her.<p>"I have big ears," said a friend to whom I<br>made the unfortunate choice of confessing<br>my ear worry without first checking out<br>hers.<p>"Oh, was it a problem for you?" I<br>innocently asked. "Well, aside from being<br>called Dumbo in grade school…" she said.<br>Argh.<p>What to do? Online mom forums were no<br>help, because anyone who asked about<br>the issue of big ears got attacked by the<br>other mothers who found their own kids'<br>protruding ears adorably yummy. (One<br>mother defended a questioner by saying,<p>"Kids are cruel, and most of you folks<br>wouldn't think twice about someone's<br>decision to circumcise their child or pierce<br>their ears, so what's the issue with this??")<p>"Newborn moms spend too much time<br>examining their babies because they have<br>too much time home alone with them,"<br>my doctor said. But then I turned her<br>around. "Oh, I see what you mean," he<br>added. He told me she'd probably grow<br>out of it, that it was due to her sleeping on<br>her back.<p>The plastic surgeon didn't agree. Yup,<br>that's where we took her after<br>investigating other options, like the Baby's<br>Bonnette from France, which was a<br>netting hat that promised to hold babies'<br>ears down during sleep, or the Ear Wells<br>from England, small ear-shaped plastic<br>"splints" that corrected ear deformities<br>and "bat ears," which is what my<br>daughter had. My husband wanted it done<br>professionally.<p>"Your daughter's ears are not going to<br>flatten out after she spends time on her<br>tummy," said Doctor David A. Staffenberg,<p>who specializes in craniofacial surgery.<br>(Boy, did I feel horrible when I was<br>chatting with another mother in the<br>waiting room who told me her daughter<br>needed surgery to split the skull bones<br>open.)<p> He said she was the perfect<br>candidate for Ear Wells, a more<br>cumbersome splint which shaped and<br>caged the ear in plastic and held it to a<br>baby's head. The only problem? We were<br>quite late to the game. It had taken me a<br>over a month to take action — and now<br>the cartilage was beginning to set.<p>"Some mothers come to me straight from<br>the hospital," said Nurse Practitioner<br>Amanda Young, who said she's splinted<br>about 250 babies' ears, and Dr.<br>Staffenberg ten times that amount. I<br>flinched at the cost — $350 for the first<br>pair, and then after ten days, if another<br>set was needed, another $250.<br>"It's cheaper than plastic surgery," said<p>Dr. Staffenberg, noting that from the age<br>of about 6 or 7 ears could be pinned back<br>in surgery under anesthesia, which can<br>cost around $8,000.<p>"And painless," Young added. She'd had<br>some six-month-old patients with<br>promising results, although she wouldn't<br>guarantee any for my baby.<p>"What's the harm?" my husband said.<br>Indeed. Aside from looking like she had a<br>Bluetooth on each ear, and the judgment I<br>got from anyone who saw it (until I started<br>lying and saying it was for an infection).<p>Oh, and the fact that she didn't like it,<br>demonstrated by the way she furiously<br>turned her head from side to side to fall<br>asleep. The left one came off after a day.<br>"Most babies don't notice it," Young said,<p>replacing the Ear Well free of charge. The<br>pair lasted almost until the next<br>appointment, and for the last few days we<br>taped the ears down with the medical<br>tape they'd given us. (The nurse<br>practitioner said that in the south, that's<br>how everyone does it!)<p>And guess what? Her ears improved. Since the Economic<br> and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arrested the national publicity secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at his residence located at drive one, Prince and Princess Estate, in the Games Village area of Abuja January 5, he has dominated in all sections of the media.</p> <p dir="ltr">Metuh is facing investigation for allegedly collecting<br> about N400m from the office of the former national<br> security adviser, Sabo Dasuki, part of the funds meant<br> for the procurement of arms and ammunition for the<br> fight against Boko Haram in northeast which the<br> Nigerian Army never received, thanks to patriotic citizens like Metuh.<br> But the climax of Metuh's predicament came when he<br> was handcuffed by the Nigeria Prisons Service (NPS) as<br> he appeared for his trial at the Federal High Court in<br> Abuja on Tuesday, January 19.</p> <p dir="ltr">As expected, the arrest and handcuffing Metuh has<br> drawn widespread condemnation from the PDP. The opposition has ran to the gallery accusing President<br> Muhammadu Buhari of using anti-corruption agencies<br> and other institutions of state to subject accused persons like Metuh to inhuman treatment.</p> <p dir="ltr">The party also claims Metuh's ordeal at the hands of<br> the anti-graft agencies was an intent by the All<br> Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration to deride the PDP as well as taint the party as a party of<br> corrupt individuals even when they were yet to be convicted by any competent court.</p> <p dir="ltr">But these baseless accusations by a party which<br> celebrates people like James Ibori, Peter Odili, Joshua<br> Dariye, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, Lucky Igbinedion, Chief Bode George, Sambo Dasuki and Goodluck<br> Jonathan among others who are accused of perpetuating corruption in high places should not come as a surprise to Nigerians.</p> <p dir="ltr">How Metuh Committe Political Suicide</p> <p dir="ltr">What the PDP has failed to realise is that Olisa Metuh<br> committed political suicide when he collected N400m<br> from Dasuki and still had the nerve to attract attention<br> to himself by constantly attacking an administration<br> that was busy trying to deal with the mess that he and<br> his league of looters had created.<br> Prior to his arrest, Metuh displayed the kind of<br> disposition that violates the principle "that he who<br> comes to equity must come with clean hands" . </p> <p dir="ltr">Aware that he had skeletons in his cupboard, Metuh should<br> have kept quiet rather than constantly gallivanting the<br> media taking swipes at the APC administration which is<br> battling to clean the filth he and his PDP cohorts have<br> heaped on the country.</p> <p dir="ltr">He shot himself in the foot when he chased cheap<br> popularity by raising alarm that the economy of the<br> country was crumbling and that the insurgency in the<br> northeast was worsening when he knew that he was<br> among those who had milked Nigeria dry and shared<br> in the blood money many of our gallant soldiers died<br> for but never received.</p> <p dir="ltr">In a Punch report dated January 12, 2016, Olisa Metuh<br> himself made a confessional statement to the<br> Economic and Financial Crimes Commission that<br> Goodluck Jonathan gave him N400m for a job which<br> he refused to disclose. This was after he tore his<br> confessional statement and decided to swallow the<br> paper so as to eat his words literally.</p> <p dir="ltr">How PDP is advertising shamelessness<br> Even after his confession, the PDP has chosen to close<br> its eye to Metuh's statements by pretending that shame<br> has gone out of fashion.</p> <p dir="ltr">In advertising shamelessness, the party still has the<br> nerve to demand for the release of Metuh, warning that<br> his arrest was capable of ruining the country's<br> democracy as stated by its national secretary, Prof.<br> Adewale Oladipo, in a Punch report of January 5,<br> 2016.</p> <p dir="ltr">Let's ask this question, if a man who has confessed to<br> stealing N400M (one million in 400 places) is handcuffed, is it a big deal?</p> <p dir="ltr">Olisah Metuh deserves what he is getting, he should<br> have learnt from men like Chief Bode George and Peter<br> Odili who have chosen to lay low so as to hide their<br> alleged financial crimes.</p> <p dir="ltr">One thing is certain following Metuh's arrest, he is on<br> his way to political irrelevance now that some national<br> officers of the party have asked him and the acting<br> chairman, board of trustees, Haliru Mohammed and<br> others to step down with immediate effect.</p> <p dir="ltr">Whether his political death comes now or later, Metuh<br> should bear in mind that he caused his own downfall<br> by talking too much when he knew he had skeletons in<br> his cupboard.</p> <p dir="ltr">The views expressed in this article are the author's<br> own and do not necessarily represent the editorial<br> policy of our blog.</p> <p dir="ltr">Source:Naij.com</p>

There has been concessions in the past and nothing happened", he said.</p> <p dir="ltr">The silk urged the court to make a consequential order that all the processes filed are deemed as properly filed and served.</p> <p dir="ltr">Following the various submissions of lawyers, Justice Idris held that all the preliminary objections and substantive application shall be taken together while all the processes filed shall be deemed as properly filed and served.</p> <p dir="ltr">He then adjourned the matter till March 18, for report of settlement or for hearing.</p> <p dir="ltr">In the substantive suit, MTN had sued NCC, challenging the sanction imposed on it and urged the court to quash the fine.</p> <p dir="ltr">Joined as co-respondent in the suit is the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice.</p> <p dir="ltr">The telecoms company argued that NCC being a regulator couldn't assume all the functions of the state on its own.</p> <p dir="ltr">It was further argued that the NCC cannot make the regulation, prescribed the penalty and imposed the fine.</p> <p dir="ltr">MTN also alleged that it was not afforded its constitutional right of fair hearing before a court of competent jurisdiction and more importantly, it had not been found guilty of any offence that will warrant it to pay such outrageous fine.</p> <p dir="ltr">It contended that the sanction imposed on it by NCC was within 24 hours of its written submission on the disconnection exercise and the impractical nature of the NCC deadline.</p>

That was three years ago. I bought<br>them from him for N100,000. He printed the<br>seven certificates.<p>"I do not know where he stays. We did not meet<br>in any specific location. We usually met at fast<br>food joints or any agreed place. For instance, it<br>was at Agodi Gate area that I gave him the<br>money and got the certificates. I decided to use<br>another name on the certificates.<p>"I forged them because I dropped out of the<br>university. I was actually studying Medicine.<p>However, I dropped out in the 500 level due to<br>financial reasons.<p>"I married my wife about five years ago. She<br>thought I was a certified doctor. She actually<br>came to me for treatment in the Ketu area and<br>that was how we met. We have a child."<p>Adesina, who denied his landlord's allegation,<br>said he only operated a laboratory where he<br>attended to his patients. He said, <p>"Three years<br>ago, I decided to get the certificates just to<br>cover up for the failure to finish my university<br>education.<p>"It is not true that I brought women to treat at<br>home. The truth of the matter is that I have a<br>laboratory and the women came there. I usually<br>did tests for them and by the time the test<br>results were out, I would ask them to visit a<br>hospital for treatment."<p>The suspect's wife, Olawumi, pleaded that her<br>husband should be released as he had realised<br>his mistake, and would never venture into such<br>again.<p>But the Lagos State Police Public Relations<br>Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, said the suspect<br>would be charged to court as soon as<br>investigation was over.
