Yenagoa—Bayelsa State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Esueme Dan-Kikile, yesterday, said that the recent revelation by the state Resident Electoral Commissioner, Baritor Kpagih, on the alleged attempt by some politicians to induce him to rig the inconclusive governorship election had vindicated the position of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state.
Kikile said that though the series of alarm raised by PDP on plots by the APC to rig the governorship election in the state were dismissed by security agencies, the recent revelation by the state REC had confirmed the fears raised by the PDP in the state.
The Bayelsa REC had last week during a media interaction, according to report, alleged that some politicians had approached him and tried to induce him to rig the governorship election.
But the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr Dan-Kikile yesterday, in Yenagoa during the monthly transparency briefing, said: "The recent confession by the Bayelsa REC confirmed what we have always said that some people had attempted to reach INEC.
"We were not taken seriously but had insisted that as a government, the maxim of one man, one vote must apply. That was why we campaigned from community to community."
Meanwhile, the state Deputy Governor, Rear Admiral John Jonah, while speaking on the income and expenditure of the state in the month of October, said the state received a total sum of N6.496 billion.
He noted with regret that the state was witnessing austere times as it was finding it difficult to meet its obligations.
According to the Deputy Governor, a total deduction of N2,198, 490, 641.56 was effected at the source leaving the state with a net income of N 4, 296, 241, 554.64k for the month of October 2015.
