Meet the titleholders of Elite Model Look Nigeria

Funmilayo Akinsola and Damilola Okunola are the winners of the 8th edition of  Elite Model Look.

Nigerian fashion lovers are getting ready to see who will emerge as the new ‘elite’ model when the competition returns later this year for the 9th edition.

While waiting, these are the titleholders of the annual contest.

Funmilayo Akinsola and Damilola Okunola became winners of the 2015 Elite Model Look Nigeria competition.

They took home cheques of $5,000 each on Sunday, September 13, 2015 after competing along with thousands of other contestants, parading the runway five times in eye-catching outfits from top African designers.

They also got a once-in-a-lifetime chance to participate in the Elite International Modelling Competition in China last year.

The duo were also in Milan, Italy in November 2015 to represent Nigeria at the Elite Model Look World Finals, which they competed in with over 30 other models from countries across world.

A student of Horticulture in the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Funmilayo is not new to the game.

According to her proud mother and full of smiles, Funmilayo started modelling when she was 14, and has participated in several national and international competitions like the Top Model World where she finished 5th, Top Model Nigeria from which she emerged winner, and Model for Models competition 2015 which she also won.

For Damilola Okunola, the Elite Model competition happens to be his first ever attempt in such a contest. A fashion and hair stylist, Damilola is completely dedicated to building his modelling career at the expense of a university education even, which according to him, he can always come back to after he has ‘made it’.

The most prominent past winner is Lagos based model Nneoma Edith Anosike, who beat 13 other models to emerge winner of the 2013 Elite Model Look competition. She’s worked with notable designers such as Hermes, Balmain and Calvin Klein.

Other past winners include Mayowa Nicholas and Victor Nwigwe (2014), and 2012 winners Chika Emmanuella and Alvin Dayaffin.
