Music producer, Timbaland has left his role on TV show Empire after two seasons.
Timbaland led the musical team, alongside co-songwriter Jim Beanz, to craft songs to fit episodes of the show and give them an idea of where the plot is headed.
‘We were happy to work with Timbaland during the first two seasons’, Shawn Holiday, senior VP of A&R at Columbia Records, which releases Empire’s music said.
‘But we wanted to take a different approach for season 3. We dealt a lot with family drama in the first season through songs like ‘Good Enough’ when Lucious Lyon threw his son Jamal in the trash can. That was a very emotional music moment. So we’re going for the same success with upcoming songs like ‘Mama’, about Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) being the backbone of the family, and a duet with Mariah Carey and Jussie Smollett’, he added.
Timbaland has had remarkable collaborations with some of pop’s biggest artistes, including Missy Elliott, Madonna, Brandy, Destiny’s Child, Justin Timberlake, Jay Z, Nelly Furtado, Ginuwine and the late Aaliyah.
Grammy Award-winning songwriter/producer Rodney Jerkins has been announced to serve as supervising music producer, while songwriter Ester Dean will also be joining the show for the upcoming third season.
The third season of Empire will premiere on September 21, 2016.
