Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, has reacted to President Muhammadu Buhari’s state­ment on Tuesday when he visited the Benin Crown prince, Edaiken of Benin, Eheneden Erediauwa at his palace.

The leader of Biafra Independence Move­ment (BIM), said on Saturday, September 10, that regardless of the president’s speech, Biafra will not be stopped.

Buhari is reported to have said: “Please sit down and reflect and re­member what I said 30 years ago that there is no other nation like Nigeria. We will remain one together because no matter where you go, the color of your skin will be a problem for you’’.

Although Edo state is not part of Biafran Territory, Uwazuruike in a statement signed by BIM’s director of information, Mazi Chris Mocha,  on Sunday in Onitsha disagreed with the president saying, no amount of preaching on “One Ni­geria” can save the country from going the way of the Soviet Union.

He blamed Britain for the problems facing Nigeria adding that Lord Luggard when he discovered that northerners were indolent and that the resources be­ing generated from the Niger Delta of Southern Nigeria could be used to administer the two protectorates (North and South) joined the two different entities together without seeking the consent of the people concerned.

Uwazuruike further re­vealed that after the killing of Gen. Aguiyi Ironsi, the north had wanted to pull out of one Nigeria after Yakubu Gowon said that there was no basis for one Nigeria.

It was also the same Britain Broad­casting Corporation (BBC, Hausa Service) that aired the statement urging them not to separate hence the turn ­around “to keep Nigeria one is a task that must be done’’.

This, Uwazuruike main­tained, is the basis of “our second attempt for Biafra-Nigeria Civil War through non-violence and non-exo­dus.”
He revealed that oil is the beginning and the end of one Nigeria, noting that if the oil was owned by the Hausas, the South would have been pushed out of Nigeria many years ago.

Mocha added: “We want­ed Biafra because the re­sources from the South East and South-South have been confiscated with the Nigeria Military forces to develop Lagos, Abuja and other areas in the north while the former Eastern Region was left to wallow in neglect, dilapida­tion and state of disrepair. 

“BIM has observed with sadness that those who hat­ed the South East and Niger Delta people now wanted us so much to remain in one Ni­geria with them but warned that any region that fights against Biafra actualization is fighting against God and the people.”
