A senator from Ogun state, Prince Buruji Kashamu, who has been facing allegations of drug trafficking, has been offered a free return ticket to the United States of America so as to go clear his name once and for all.

The Northern Youths Movement (NYM) said it was better for him to go to the US to clear his name instead of running from one court to the other trying to prevent his extradition to the foreign country.

The youths have agreed to buy return ticket for Kashamu to go to the US and clear his name

In a statement signed by its chairman, Mallam Ishaya Jato, and made available to NAIJ.com, the youths further offered to provide hotel accommodation and feeding for the senator.

The group warned judges in the country, especially Justice Okon Abang and others allegedly on the payroll of Senator Kashamu to stop granting frivolous orders to obstruct his journey to the US, contending that shopping for court orders to prevent something as simple as going to the country was a confirmation of the senator’s culpability in the alleged drug crime.

Kashamu had constantly denied involvement in the alleged drug trafficking scandal but the youth group says he really needs to clear his name.

NYM said rather than holding on to his claim that his late look-alike younger brother was the one that was involved in the crime, it was better for Senator Kashamu to step on the soil of  US, stay in the country for like three days and return to Nigeria.

NDLEA once attempted to arrest and extradite Kashamu

The youths said by going to the US and returning to Nigeria, the senator would have cleared his name once and for all and put the country’s government that declared him wanted to shame permanently.

The NYM said it was strange that Senator Kashamu could be afraid of going to the US, prompting him to hide himself in the toilet for several hours when the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) invaded his house in Lagos last year to effect his extradition.

It pointed out that the NDLEA had said in May 2016, through its head of public affairs, Mr Ofoyeju Mitchell, that the agency’s men invaded Kashamu’s residence in Lekki, Lagos state in response to the extradition request formally made to the Nigerian government by its American counterpart.

It said: “No Nigerian would reject an opportunity of going to the US free of charge and if Senator Kashamu is afraid of being extradited, he should accept the free return ticket and free accommodation and feeding for one week that we are offering him.”

Meanwhile, Kashamu was said to have become emotional in court on Thursday, September 8, in court at the resumption of court hearing concerning plans to get him extradited.

His counsel Godwill Mrakpo expressed queried the need for the court to grant it’s motion ex-parte for the Department of State Services to file their counter affidavit without legal representation.

Kashamu is the senator representing Ogun east at the Nigerian senate and was the south-west leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

He had been at loggerheads with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who accused him of drug trafficking, adding that such a man cannot be his leader  in the party.

Obasanjo later dumped the party and active politics.
